ElvenRelations is a Renai VisualNovel written in English language. In other words, it's a multi-ending Japanese-style romantic adventure story read/played on Windows, Linux or Mac. It's written by AlexChurchill, with character art by SunKitten, some background art by Tsunami, and some musical contributions by Rachael and AmyRobinson. The original 1.0 version was released on 31st March 2007; version 1.1 was released on 5th May 2007, and includes a CRPG-style combat engine, a CG gallery, an omake, two new pieces of music, and some other minor tweaks.

Download and Screenshots

The game has a small webpage [here], which contains download links for Windows (98+), Linux x86, and Mac OS X. It also contains links to larger versions of these screenshots:

and seven desktop backgrounds like these:

For the bandwidth-conscious or those playing on machines without sound, there is now a silent version of the game available for download from the same page, which is 30 megabytes per distribution rather than the full game's 89.

History

It was originally started in August 2003; progress was made fitfully on scriptwriting. It was conceived as a simple and quick game, but that didn't end up being the case. It floundered, with the script about 60% written, for years, acquiring some background images from Tsunami and some black-and-white character images from Shawn, but not making any progress towards actually getting completed. Tsunami and Shawn both didn't have time to put much more work into the game, and Alex spent years very slowly writing the remaining script.

Then NaNoRenO 2007 happened, and Alex decided to get the game finished once and for all. SunKitten was conscripted to provide character art, based on the excellent job she did for WhenIRuleTheWorld in 2005. The game was released on 31st March 2007!

Ahem.  May I be the first to say...  Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!  --Vitenka (RunAndHide)
What?!? You don't like ren'ai games?!? You must convert him, AlexChurchill!!! I'll help! *Throws oddly shaped objects at Vitenka*  --Shawn
(DeepBreath?) ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!  --Vitenka
Aww... I thought you'd like some more oddly shaped objects for your collection, 'Tenka? :) --AC
I've just realised that 'ooo' without the 'N' on the front could take on an entirely different meaning, in the presence of "oddly shaped objects".  --Vitenka
{gasp} {pant} {pant} {DeepBreath?} Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!  --Vitenka

Ack! This is too much like real life, it's not all clear what decision is going to be the best, and I suspect like life it won't all turn out fantastically well :'( --RobHu
If you want to retract a decision, press page-up and you can roll back the conversation ;) There is a limit, but it's a reasonably big one. I used that several times ;) - SunKitten
I think this is more a comment about how I view life. I tried all the different options (this is early on in the story), and didn't feel overly comfortable with any of them. I feel like decisions I make may have long term unexpected consequences. I want options (in life) like "Be good and have a happy life" or "Be stupid / evil and be unhappy", not thousands of complex decisions each of which have non obvious consequences. --RobHu

Bugs

If you're using v1.0 and find some menus flickering by at a certain point in Chapter 4, it's not a bug, just a badly-displayed representation of a consequence of a choice you made. It's displayed more clearly in v1.1; it's meant to represent you not being in full control of what decisions you made.
If you're using v1.1 and find a choice in the narrated combat mode causes a crash, download version 1.1.1, or download the file attached to [this post].
For other issues, see ElvenRelations/Bugs (may contain spoilers).
