PhD student belonging to John's and MatSci, though he doesn't live in college any more (and is one of the ~1% of CambridgeStudents who freely admits he initially applied to the wrong college**). This statement sparked a minor /CollegeDiscussion which has been moved. Having a PhD meant I got to spend three more years in Cambridge and poke nanotubes. This is good, although most of my nanotube poking has met with limited success. I will probably end up staying around here for much longer, though not in academia because...well, because I'm fed up with the way everything is a competition here.

I am coming towards the end of my PhD (well, in theory), which means I will at some point soon actually have to have a /Career. Scary thought.

A irregular at GamesEvening, player of many strategy games. This kind of includes MagicTheGathering, but I don't buy new cards any more or have the time to make decks, so it could be considered somewhat abandoned as a hobby. I do still have StuartFraser/MtGTrades, although what I would want to trade for is something of a mystery.

Other hobbies include archery, more archery, roleplaying, and dancing (both BallroomDancing and /AcrobaticRockAndRoll) making me another member of the shadowy cult known only as CDC. For some reason when I added archery to this list I forgot to delete "I'm not sure which of these I actually do more of. Or would want to do more of.". Archery.

I was the treasurer of CURS for five years. Joined the society at his first committee meeting, amidst great cheering. Likes the Exalted world, but has given up on the ruleset that accompanies it.

I play as much Cricket as my body will let me, generally for St. John's MCR or St. John's long vacation teams. I've been known to turn out for OldSpring? on occasions but they're better than me. Shin splints don't help, though I should probably try and see a professional about that. They seem to have abated somewhat this year.

The other thing I did with my CopiousFreeTime is watch (and occasionally write about) AmericanFootball, and I spent a year on the writing staff of [FootballOutsiders], though I generally felt horribly out of my depth and writing the annual Pro Football Prospectus almost killed me. It was fun, but I won't miss much of it. These days I barely even have enough time to watch games.

Was once a quotes collector, now collating them in StuartFraser/Quotes so that they get some audience.

Has moderately violent MoodSwings?. Is fully capable of transiting to and from CurlUpAndDie to PoingPoingPoing in the amount of time since you last saw him.

Basically doesn't post on ToothyWiki any more, but clicking on the title still gives a reasonably large number of pages I've posted on, probably because I SpentTooMuchTimeOnToothyWiki when I thought it was a more welcoming place and I had more time to spend.

An unashamed RebeccaBorgstrom fanboy.
Is that a problem? -- Senji

General thanks to MoonShadow for doing a global find/replace on RogueAngel...

Writes occasional pieces of fiction and nonfiction on Image: 78 [adarisa] and generally invites comment on them.

SF is also a CategoryAbbreviation for Science Fiction. This has caused entertaining confusion on the ToothyChat more than once.

Why silly names for your faction are always good in 4X games, from Something Awful:
"By now all of you are aware that Steve Earle is a problem. In truth, he has been a problem for some time now, but one that I'd hoped I would be able to destroy with the help of The Internet before it could impact the rest of you. Unfortunately this has not turned out to be the case, and he has become a problem we must all face together. I reach out even to you, Secular Humanism; while I know that your inscrutable alien designs care little for the suffering of the people, you must at least recognise Steve Earle's damaging influence on the slaves whose minds you have consumed.

"Let us all join together beneath the banner of Ambiguity, then, and rid our people of Steve Earle forever. Send what astral pearls you are able to contribute upon receipt of this message, and in the following month we will strike down this black mark he has placed upon the world while the armies of The Internet close upon his home to ensure he will never again commit such a crime. Remember, pearls for Pythium please and preserve plentitudes of pondering progenitors. Think of the beards, and act today."
