What makes for a good AMV?  Your thoughts here...

Kazuhiko's rule #1 for AMV creators...  DO NOT USE SUBTITLED SOURCE MATERIAL!  (This doesn't mean don't use subtitles, just don't use source video which still has fansubs which are completely irrelevant to your AMV on it)
Are there really AMV out there that make this mistake?  --Vitenka

Vitenka's rule #1 - Know when your joke has run its course.  Very well done for stopping the 'raining men' one before it stopped being funny.

DouglasReay thinks that the song "White Lightening" or "White Lightnin'" (which Google seems to think is by Waylon Jennings, the guy who did the Dukes of Hazard theme music, from his Clovis To Phoenix-The Early Years album) is just begging to have an AMV made from it.

Well, in North Carolina, way back in the hills
Lived my old pappy and he had him a still
He brewed white lightning until the sun went down
And then he'd fill him a jug

And he'd pass it around
Mighty, mighty pleasin'
You're pappy's corn squeezin'
White lightning

Yeah, the G-Men, T-Men, revenuers too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were lookin', tryin' to book him
White lightning

Well, I asked my old pappy
Why he called his brew
White lightning, instead of mountain dew
I took a little sip and right away I knew

As my eyes bugged out and my face turned blue
Lightnin, started flashin'
Thunder started clashin'
White lightning

Yeah, the G-Men, T-Men, revenuers too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were lookin', tryin' to book him
But my pappy kept on cookin'
White lightning

Well, a city slicker came
And he said: I'm tough
I think I wanna taste that powerful stuff
He took one slug and he drink it right down

And I heard him moanin' as he hit the ground
Mighty, mighty pleasin'
You're pappy's corn squeezin'
White lightning

Yeah, the G-Men, T-Men, revenuers too
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew
They were lookin', tryin' to book him
But my pappy kept on cookin'

Have a listen to [the tune] and see what you think.
What anime(s/pl) were you thinking of? Sounds like you have a good idea - go for it :) - SunKitten
I don't know nearly enough anime to do this myself.  Do you think there are enough anime scenes of a) someone drinking and reacting to strong drink and b) white kill-o-zap power rays (technological or magical)?  I just heard the song in the car coming to anime one week, and thought I'd mention it in case anyone felt inspired. :-) --DR
I'm sure there are, but - it kind of has to be inspiring to the person making it. To me it sounds like it'd be fun and good to watch but I have no urge to make it, whereas with It's Raining Men, that *needed* to be made (although someone else might well be different). In any case, if you haven't seen enough anime, you need to fix that now, while you can - then you've got no excuses ;) - SunKitten
Beware using the same white lightning sequence over and over again.  X has a few you could use, but I'm not sure how to avoid it being reptitive.  Another option might be to use the theme of the song (brewin moonshine) instead and see where that takes you.  Then you could use the literal white lightning gag near the end?  Or, as yet another alternative, it shouldn't be too terrible to turn the entire DukeOfHazard? intro sequence into an anime verison.  There's plenty of innapropriate car shows.  (I mean, you've got room in there for everything from YoureUnderArrest?, InitialD? right down to SpeedRacer?  Intercut with bits of the original intro to make certain that people get the joke?)  --Vitenka

Heh.  Just read this title aloud.  AMV rules!  --Vitenka  (Statements like that are why the EnglishLanguage is confusing.  I meant it as an imperative, but it looks equally like te past tense with an implicit 'I'.  Both work, I suppose.)
