If ever you have the misfortune to cycle South down St. Andrew's St. between the Christ's PLodge and the junction with Emmanuel St., do keep both hands on the brakes. Lots of people assume this is a one-way street, and will step out in front of you and similar. I have crashed into more than one pedestrian, albeit at low speed because of my brakes. Until I complained a few months ago, bus drivers were in the habit of trying to force you off the road while mouthing "one" at you. --Admiral
Yes, that is particularly annoying.  Another friend of mine complained about that too.  Has it stopped?
Mostly, although there's still the occasional taxi or delivery van that give it a try. --Admiral

Also, at the junction with Emmanuel St., be careful. Most road users assume that Emmanuel Street is a T-junction off St. Andrew's St., whereas in fact the North end of St. Andrew's St. is a T-junction off the rest of St. Andrew's St. and Emmanuel St. Many consequently fail to indicate, or barge in when they don't have right of way. --Admiral
And the pedestrians always think that noone is going to turn into Downing St. so they cross the road and get in your way.  grrr. --Naath
(PeterTaylor) Pedestrians walk across Downing Street when there are vehicles coming down Downing Street at them. I think it's to do with the two large pubs nearby. (Note: I do generally go down Downing Street on Friday evenings).

In addition, the stretch of road between Emmanuel St. and the junction with Downing St. is particularly dangerous to cyclists wanting to turn right into Downing St.  There is a right-turn lane for cyclists that extends this whole distance, but vehicles parked on the West side of the road cause Northbound vehicles to cross over into this lane. Most of the stretch is marked with double yellow lines, but vehicles park there nonetheless. There is a bus stop, which used to be marked "set-down only". I have certainly seen busses waiting there all locked up with no driver. --Admiral
