Not freeware but a fairly interesting demo is available.
Uses sung spellcasting as a central mechanic. I've heard it referred to as a 'shooter' but it seems to be more varied than that, at least in the section in the demo.
As I put it elsewhere, "It can be a game of exploration, but you have to shoot things sometimes, and it starts seeming like a side-scrolling space shooter; but then you spend a lot of time exploring beautiful landscapes, and making your character sing songs and cook." --AC
Somehow manages to feel more like a MetroidVania than any other genre, even though it's (mostly) not a platform game. It's also notable for beautiful atmospheric music. I love this game and reviewed it [here]. --AC
