Part A

Once again, you wake up to find yourself surrounded by blasting laser lights and pounding dance beats...

Noooooo!  Anything but that!  I must see a doctor about these recurring nightmares...

The group of person to grab your attention is the small gender-confused child sitting on the floor, wearing goggles and using a laptop, who seems oblivious to the music around it. At least, that's the way it first appears, but when you later notice that the laser lights around the club are all being controlled by the child's movement on the laptop, you begin to wonder just how much she controls...

Ed from Cowboy Bebop.  And, in answer to your last question: Everything!  MuHaHaHa! --K

Moving towards the dance floor, some girls stand out from the start; A beautiful brown-haired girl with piercing green eyes and a diminuitive blonde, both dancing, jealously trying to attract attention from the nearby oblivious teen boy, who is standing against the wall looking bored. Meanwhile, a younger orange-haired girl seems fully involved in the party, until she starts to slow down as smoke starts billowing from her head...

I think this is Nemu, Sakura, Junnichi and Miharu from Da Capo (yes, I had to look up the names...).  The smoke gave it away, but I'm not sure that I got the first girl right. --K

After tiring yourself out somewhat, you move towards the bar to recover. There, you see a teenage girl chatting amiably about what seems to your muddled head to be nothing more than techno-babble, to a younger copy of herself. When the elder starts declaring that the younger's alien technology may be the true link to meeting them, yo decide to move on...

Eh??  Sorry, no clue --K
Possibly maybe ExcelSaga? - SunKitten

Glancing back at the stage, you can see that another group has arrived - a quiet, reserved girl dances shyly with a beautiful man, whose face is spoiled only by the slight features of a mouse. Next to them, a hyper-genki girl clings to a red-haired teen, who seems nothing nmore than irritated by the attention. As he slips on a spilt drink on the floor, the quiter girl reaches out to stop his fall, when a puff of smoke ensues... moments later, she is left clutching a cat and a resigned look on her face...

Toru & Yuki & Kagura & Kyo from Fruits Basket --K

Escaping before you fall foul to a similar fate, you reach the outskirts of the pub, before encountering a man dressed in a terrible excuse at drag, with a red-and-spiky-haired girl standing next to him, eyes downcast. They appear to be performing a magic show for a group of children, although they seem to be messing up on a regular basis...

Eh??  OK, I'm not very good at this... --K
Takeo and Sae from MahoutsukaiTai? - SunKitten

While looking around for something to eat, you see a huge trough, from which a number of pigs are enjoying their meal. You can't help but think that some of them look rather more human than the others...

Spirited Away? --K

Finally finding the ramen stand in the club, you encounter a huge blond man with a sword having an argument, seemingly over ramen, with a small (in every sense of the word) red-haired woman. The argument grows louder and angrier, until the woman shouts out some all-but-unintelligible gibberish whilst making curious posturings, and the man suddenly cowers and starts to run away...

Gourry and Lina from Slayers...  *runs for cover from the DragonSlave? which is coming... --K  (Cover?  From a DragonSlave??  Who am I trying to kid?) --K

Suddenly exhausted, you collapse upon the floor, and let the world go past. Until you are rudely awakened by alarm sirens blasting out "RETURN TO NEAREST SHELTER! RETURN TO NEAREST SHELTER!" Looking around once more, you notice a red-haired girl and a quiet boy seeming more irritated and resigned than scared...

Only saw one episode so this is quite a guess:  Full Metal Panic? --K
I think it's Shinji and Asuka from Eva, but I could very easily be wrong - SunKitten (I'm with you for everything else)

Tee hee. It makes me somewhat happy to see the results of my mischief :):):) All the guesses made are correct, save for the excel saga. The third clue does appear to be rather obscure, perhaps I only came up with it because I've seen the one-episode anime rather too many times myself. But still, I can think of worse things to do for half an hour on Easter afternoon! - GreenOpal

I need to be educated with more anime people!  I only got the Furubu refence --Naath
I, also. I only got Eva, Spirited Away and CowboyBebop. --Requiem

Part B

FIRST SECTION (five anime, initial letters spell two words, 2-3)

The crews of two different spaceships have invaded the dance floor. The spaced-out captains (one male, one female) are relaxing at the bar, and other characters seem to pair up too: there are three girl pilots from one ship and two young twin pilots from the other; there's a military stickler-for-the-rules from each ship commiserating with each other the follies of their captains; one red-haired girl who looks almost elven is chatting to a girl of few words with pale-blue hair, and studiously attempting to ignore a demented girl jumping around trying to direct the ravers towards an obvious trapdoor.  A bishounen in excessively large and fancy robes is standing by a bell-pull and watching the way nobody steps over the trapdoor with a look of resignation on his face.
So - IrresponsibleCaptainTylor and Nadesico, followed by Excel and IlPalazzo? from ExcelSaga - SunKitten

Two men are sitting playing a board game at the side. One seems in comunication with a spirit of sorts and is focusing on the black and white stones he's playing, while the other seems to think only he can see the lines on the board...
HikaruNoGo and, um, what?? - SunKitten, confused
Gah, idiot! It's TsukiHime. So, which ones have their titles shortened, since Shingetsutan TsukiHime is the full title? - SunKitten

(three anime given their full title, two given their commonly-used shorter titles)
So, Tylor and Nadesico have their shorter names gives T and N, with ExcelSaga and HikaruNoGo and the other one having the longer names = T,N,E,H and something else? - SunKitten
Being short of vowels, I'll assume Tylor has its long title and TsukiHime the short one, which makes IN THE - SunKitten

SECOND SECTION (six anime, initial letters spell one word)

A discussion about building robots has erupted between a terrifying manic young schoolgirl with a bunch of bananas, a smooth-talking jack-of-all-trades with a screwdriver, and a beautiful blonde who seems to be in favour of using a magical mineral to make creations which evolve on their own.  Another hyper schoolgirl with a bunch of bananas seems very interested in the discussion also, for rather more personal reasons.

LoveHina.  Full Metal Alchemist?? (<- This is a complete guess) RayEarth?.  Da Capo. --K
Yeah, it might be FMA - or I wondered about Avenger. Neither is obvious - SunKitten
Avenger is right. It's the only anime I can think of featuring someone explicitly described as a "jack-of-all-trades" (nandemo-ya). But it was particularly unclear, and GreenOpal had trouble with that one too. --AlexChurchill

A scientist in a white lab coat and an aging librarian have given up on this crowd and are vigourously debating the best way to achieve unification of every human personality on earth - the woman is making veiled references to lifeforms underneath the ground, while the man wants to usher in a society of total information freedom, but both blondes seem to be motivated by bringing back someone important from the dead, and both are agreed on the need for immense computing power.

I am so confused by all these... my only guess is that the blonde scientist is what'erface from Eva, but I have no idea about the others... - SunKitten
Agreed on this one.  I can't place the librarian at all... --K
It rings a faint bell, but only very faint... - SunKitten
MoonShadow reckons Lain is the best guess for the librarian, but that's not clear to me either. I'm extremely dubious about these guesses - SunKitten

(four anime given their full title, two given their commonly-used shorter titles)
Full: Love Hina, Da Capo, Full Metal Alchemist / Avenger, _____
Short: Rayearth, Evangelion
Letters: L, D, F / A, _,  R, E
Answer: In the larder??? --K
Well done! You got all the anime except for the one which you may not have seen, and there may be significant Spoily potential in trying to figure out what it is, so I recommend against it. And if you'd been in the Churchill house and about seven hours earlier, you'd have been able to steal GreenOpal's EasterEgg? before he got it, if you'd looked in the larder ;) ...Yes, he and I were each independently, simultaneously and unknowingly creating a BigFishLittleFishBigFishLittleFishBigFishLittleFishCardboardBox-style puzzle, for each other, being this year's treasure hunt to find each other's EasterEggs. Although we had idly mentioned the idea earlier, we were both massively surprised to discover the other had done the same! I wrote mine on Nokkette and wanted to print it out, so transferred it by logging her on to the Wiki and saving it as a minor edit to my page :) I was quite chuffed to realise there were two hypergenki schoolgirls who carry bunches of bananas with an interest in robots!! It took him ages to think of them both, too... I know most ToothyWikizens haven't seen DaCapo but my target audience was only one person this time :) --AlexChurchill

And so the night came to an end...

Normality will resume in 5... 4... 3... 2...
