Echoes of Oblivion - The Easter interlude.

And lo there will be the Easter vac. And in it there will be a break from the Abyssals campaign known as Echoes of Oblivion. And verily shall it come to pass that the main party will be off doing something else somewhere not in the game area.

But time waits not. And the GM avoids work like a work-avoiding thingy trying to avoid work. And so shall there be an interlude to fill in plot holes and give people something to do over Easter. And in due course did the GM decide Sidereals were the way forward. And the players did laugh.

In other words: I'll be running what looks to be a 4 session interlude to my campaign over Easter, following dates which are convenient for everybody or as many people as possible. The interlude will be Sidereal in nature; however given the potentially GM-breaking nature of Sidereals I'd like you to come up with sub-optimal characters. The set-up is as follows:

In the years following the fall of Thorns to the Mask of Winters the Celestial Convention on Deathlords suddenly became rather important. At the time they were under-staffed, under-valued and under a hell of a lot of pressure to find out as much about the Deathlords' next move as possible. It was agreed that they needed more Sidereals and other departments would have to lose some of their agents to compensate.

But as no bureau would be willing to give up their most competent agents, they sent the agents they could most afford to lose to build up the ranks of the fast-expanding convention. And so was /OmegaCircle, the worst circle of Sidereals for 2000 years, formed to deal with creation's greatest threat.

Guess who you're playing?

The first session starts approximately one year after the fall of Thorns (3 years prior to the start of Echoes) with the newly formed circle being sent on their first real mission. Nothing too taxing, simply a bit of astrology. In the Underworld.

As for which faction you are I really don't mind as I don't think it will be a paramount concern. I point out the convention is currently run by the Gold faction and at the start of play it is still understaffed and run by a couple of eccentric characters with odd ideas. It's the kind of place the deterius of the Celestial hierarchy end up.

Yes, I am aware this is in direct contradication to the published material. No, I'm not banning AvoidanceKata or any other charm or astrology: however I reserve the right to contradict canon as to how well these work, particularly those charms that allow you to see the plot. When in doubt, ask.

Interested parties should send me the dates they're likely to be free over Easter. Or put them below.

QUICK NOTE TO THOSE MAKING CHARACTERS ALREADY:
I'm planning on running a character generation session at some point but I know a few people are putting together characters already, so I'd better point out I'm adding a new background:

Garage Junk: The amount of Jade artifacts that any Sidereal has access to is way more than that stated in the book, thus you can buy Jade artifacts (subject to GM approval) at DB prices using this seperate artifact background. Attempts to buy kick-ass artifacts cheap "because they're jade" will be frowned at, this is mainly to buy decent weapons and armour for those that want it.

Just about any time really - I'm not that far away and I can always borrow the car. --Requiem (hopes to be bringing Black Ice Shadow, Sidereal expert on the Underworld mentality).

In order of preference: Wednesday evenings, Thursday evenings, Weekend afternoons (but not this Saturday), Friday evenings, Monday evenings after 8pm. -- Senji

I reiterate that I'm interested, but probably one of the most available, and not hugely fussed if I can't come. So count me last. However, Tuesday evenings are deprecated, I'm away until Saturday, and will be occupied for 2-3 currently undefined days next week. Edith, you should have my character - folk will be pleased to hear I have an astrologer/invetigator who's actually good at surviving fights. --ChrisHowlett
The 2-3 days are now defined reasonably firmly as Tuesday afternoon until Friday morning inclusive. Times outside those should be all right for me.

Has anyone actually decided which faction (or a mixture?) -- Senji

Session 1:

Hmmm.... Is Wednesday 24th March (ie: today) too early?

The entire thing is standalone so drop-in drop-out is a perfectly acceptable way to play if not.

I'd like to propose Wednesday evening at Oblivion. I'll endevour to make myself available between 2pm and 6pm for Character generation and general book reading (it would be useful if people could bring along as many copies of the Sidereals book as possible as we only have one and the GM could use reading it at some point).

After that I think a 6:30pm start would enough for a decent session. We can feed people in Oblivion but prior warning of about an hours-worth would be nice

New signups still welcome, although notice of showing up is apprieciated.

I'm planning to show up, probably not that long after 2; it'd be nice to have some kind of confirmation that it's actually still on / someone else is showing up before about 1... --ChessyPig
I'm planning on turning up late to the session itself... -- Senji
I can't make this one. Ah well. --CH
Oops! Apologies for not being able to make this and not telling anyone. This is what I get for forgetting to read the wiki for a day... ^_^ --Requiem
A little more warning would be nice next time, but still, sorry for the no show. - Tony
Ditto, from the Wiki reports it sounds a fun campaign to join. --Pallando

Session 2:

Monday evening seems like a good evening to waste. Can enough people make
Oblivion to make it worth running another sidereals session?

If the answer is yes then I'll run CharGen? 2-6pm as before and then a
session 6:30-whenever on Monday.

Edith.

As emailed should be good for me. Can probably skip char-gen, if you tell me whether the mirror is an artifact or a hearthstone, yes? --CH

Either, pick one. --Edith

I'm free all week as usual. I'd like to bring a more interesting character this time, namely a certain bard-type rather pacifist Serenity (cause we've too many Endings in the party and I like playing characters with, well, social skills at all.) And even though I've now got the Players' Guide I shan't use the Merits and Flaws therein, so that no one can accuse me of being a MunchKin?. --Requiem
Update - Syrtis as a starting character definitely isn't a bard, so I've improvised. This guy is called Limmen, and although he will look suspiciously familiar to AFILAW characters I've avoided certain of Syrtis' main focuses (namely, he's no longer an astrology specialist). Oh, and he's very Gold-faction too. --Requiem

I am free all this week as well, I believe. Suri proved to be less fun than I'd anticipated, but there weren't many situations for her to use her most 1337 skillz. In the hope of more things to run away screaming from, and the potential interest that having Suri and Syrtis in the same session might produce, I shall stick with her for another session. Besides, I don't have a replacement. --ChrisHowlett

/me wanders off silently looking sheepish, as now I am free Sunday too. --ChessyPig
Whereas I am no longer so placed. --CH

Am free all week but need a bit of notice. -- Artan

Wednesday would be particularly good for me, tomorrow is rather late now.  Other days probably OK with notice.  -- Senji

I promise I'll clear all this up when the interludes over but right now I find it kind of useful --Edith

Right, recovery from London and a cold are progressing well so how does Tuesday sound for next session people? --Edith.

Should be fine with me. --CH

Fine here -- Tony

Coolness -- Senji

Tuesday fine --Requiem

Should I pick up some Food from a Shop on the Way? -- Senji

Might make sense. If you bring something cookable then it will be cooked. --Edith.
Mmmm, cooked food. Will roleplay (and supply money) for food. --CH
Thirded. --Requiem
Forth and fifthed as i am a hungry person --Tony?
Anyone got any specific food requirements? -- Senji
Can't eat egg, can't eat peanut. --CH
Dislike vegtables and anything resembling health food but i dont think that really classes as a requirement. -- Tony

I sent out an e-mail earlier but basically: Interlude today! 7:00pm. Barbeque 2-6pm beforehand. --Edith
