A collection of Java online games, mostly single-player but with a few multiplayer games, notably a Worms clone called Arcanists.

Notable single-player games include Flea Circus in the Lemmings? vein, Terra Phoenix which is a TBS in the UFOEnemyUnknown mould, Hostile Spawn which is channelling AlienBreed?, Lexicominos which was written by PeterTaylor, and Miner Disturbance which is a platform / tunnel-digging game which AlexChurchill has been thoroughly addicted to.

The site's run by JagEx?, the Cambridge-based makers of RuneScape. All games are free to try, but almost all have content that's only unlocked if you subscribe: subscriptions are about £2.50 per month.

It's basically a bunch of free flash games that are in java, somewhat unstable and cost money.  Not impressed.  --Vitenka
A bunch of free flash games but in Java - yes, absolutely. I can't say I've seen any instability (at all, in several months of playing at the site). Cost money will be the big deal for most people, I'll agree. But really, who can't afford £2.50 a month? Would you even notice if your spending on chocolate, say, or cinema or some other leisure activity, went up by a total of £2.50 one month? I'll agree you need one of the games to be the killer app that makes you pay your three chocolate bars' worth. For me that was Miner Disturbance - I love all the combinations of equipment and so on. It may be a different game for other players. Some of the games aren't that impressive, but some are: Terra Phoenix is the one that sticks out for me as significantly higher quality than the typical free game. But of course, YMMV. --AC
Well, first time I ran it, it double-registered every key click (which made the real-time games unplayable) and CH reported it crashing his browser.  My main problem is that it's a bunch of clones of games I first played when I was eight.  And can still play for free, elsewhere.  --Vitenka
I don't know about you, but being "clones of games I played when I was eight" is a good thing to me :) --AC
I still own those games.  And the renting thing is a huge problem for me.  --Vitenka
