Well, indeed; that's what I thought. Maybe Peter is thinking about a different book (although I can't see how)? --M-A
(PeterTaylor) No, it's the same book. I didn't actually say it was cute: "makes you want to pull your eyes out and start decapitating humanity left right and centre" is about right. The illustrations in the version I read (and the translation) may be partly to blame.
Incidentally, there's a translation available [online].
The basic story is about a pilot who crashes in the desert and meets a young chap who says he's a prince. From another planet. But a very small one. In fact, you can walk around it in about ten minutes.
Then there's lots of weird anecdotes that the prince tells about other tiny planets that he's been to, and the people that live on them. And about how important it is to keep the volcano on his planet clean. And lots of stuff about baobabs (giant trees, I think).
The other main character is a rose, who the prince takes to, and wants to protect.
And some more weird things about drawings becoming reality for the prince, at least in his mind, and about how adults don't understand things properly, because they take them too literally, or at face-value.
