The 'author' of a series of manga. Typically used to describe the person who creates the story and draws the primary art for pages.

It is quite common, especially for the more popular/successful mangaka, for the tones (shading/textures) on the page to be applied by an assistant.

Does anyone know how the 'authors' are referred to if the story writer is separate from the primary artist? Are they both mangaka?
