*having read the page now linked above* OK, I'm talking rubbish. Maybe the art book I saw was for a Japanese animation of the stories. It looked almost exactly as I remembered the cartoon though - Kazuhiko
The art in all the animations is based on the original art in the books. Most translations of the books (I've seen Russian and English versions) have the same art in them, for that matter. A bit like Exupery's LittlePrince. - MoonShadow
