A man comes along to look at the dead cat. The old legend that you see a victims murderer reflected in their eyes seems to hold true. Ewwwww to the method. He's got a gypsy with him. She smirks and poses in front of the moon.
To use a phrase: "No. Jump good."
She's... dodgy. Very dodgy. The man swipes a sword at her and she dodges. What did you think I meant? Her hair would appear to be her weapon - it's got a mind of its own. To use another phrase: Never let Pascal know where you keep the nanbots, he does evil things with them.
Given that these two obviously know each other, I presume the man is about to be rescued. Yup. Stabbed right through the left tract of land. By a young girl with a red eyes, two scarred cheeks and a taste for blood. She appears to have no legs. The gypsy would appear to be proving that this show doesn't just have the ObscureDeathRule in force, but also the "You can't kill me, I'm a main character" rule and even the "Heck if anyone is gonna stay dead." rule. It's like the ATeam, but with way more blood.
The floating fatman has a rotatable head! And seems to have even less clue than the typical villain leader. "They are protecting the priestess from us!" "no, they want her power for themselves" (a clue? surely not) "Anyway - it is time for us to decide their fate." (Ah, TotalRealityDisconnect?, I was worried for a moment there.)
Meanwhile, the main character (he really is in this series - despite that he only shows up for the scene directly after the intro and the one just before the end) Shows up. For the scene just after the intro. He's drinking at a stream, so I'd guess that he'll kill four people today.
And that's his scene over with. The annoying kid is with the "old geezer" (It's Dakuan, I will now proceed to forget. Did the kid ever give his name? I forgot.) Boy is that monk disfigured. And the princess looks just so pouty, annoyed, angry and ready to kill for distracting her. The monk is, apparantly leading them to the main character. Since he's also looking for them, it will probably be only a few more years until they actualkly meet.
Suddenly they are attacked by Bambi! Who is cruelly slain by the man from the intro. Yay man from the intro! He has an arrow thrower built into his arm. AND a swrod. He must be a high level ambiguous guy, to have TWO weapons.
Little miss scar has gained a forehead parting since we last saw her, and seems to be all floppy and have lots of bandages. Ah yup, she's stretch armstrong of the mejii era.
But the hair is back! In the confusion, the monk tries to run away. Stretchy proves to have teeth, and the intro guy is named jashi. And he gets to bounce from trretop to treetop in that leminglike fashion all ninja have.
They try to escape him at a temple at the top of some steps. Lots of statues with weapons - and a hole at the back they could have run out of. Actually, they hid in a box, behind a statue, and hovering just above camera level.
They come out, IdiotBoy? gloats, and everything sparkles. Then a statue falls in half.
It's Jubei, of course - complaining that no one will let him sleep. So much for my ability to work out how long things will take in this series. ... It's RuleOfThree, isn't it? Anyway, they don't have a comedy misunderstanding, but Jubei does immediately decide to threaten the monk.
Threateningh a bow aimed at short range to the throat: "Priestess of Light - you must come with us." Totally unwavering, utterly confident: "No." Then: "I'm not the Priestess of Light." An.. unusual reply, I feel.
Idiot boy attacks, gets flattenned, monk grabs him and runs away. You know, her was a lot more mysterious and, well, hard in the film.
Oooh.. shiny silly gymastic swordfight. Will it get taken to the treetops? Maybe - but first we have badguy realise who Jubei is, and Jubei making a "I don't swing that way" joke.
Cut to the other fight. Stretchgirl has a couple of extra arms, but gypsy can crush trees merely by dancing vogue. Advantage stretch girl. Who stabs her. In the tracts of land. Again. But this time gypsy shrivels up and kisses a lot - which is probably a more final thing than just, you know, dying.
It's now evening, and the swordsmen are still at it. Jubei isn't winning yet.
We get a new meaning to the term "Magic Eye Pictures" - and the animators show that they know where to find that annoying 'magnifyer' screen saver.
Distracted by killing the cat, again, Jubei is put down by intro guy.
Cut to the flute. And the princess up a tree. Does the monk know what is going on? Monk is sleeping, upside down. And luckily, they have to run away from stretchy spider ghoul girl - so he doens't have to answer.
Monk has a monkey staff! YAY!
Ok, new and wonderful use of disguise technique - swap yourself for a log... filled with dynamite! Go monk!
The explosion distracts the bad guy, IdiotBoy? tries to revive Jubei, and steal the jewel. Bad guy notices. All three of them leap from a cliff. Running out of arrows isn't on the menu.
Ah, the age old duelling technique of standing still. Jubei strikes first. And wins. In madness, strethcy ghouly spider girl with sharp pointy teeth lunges forward and ... blood ... she's trying to put Joshi back together again. She cries blood and pledges revenge.
The run away gang meet Jubei at a junction the next morning. He has the jewel for them.
He discharges his obligation (leaving the princess with the mistaken impression that it was left for her by the old man from her village rather than by the monster guy) and turns to leave. Are the writers bold enough to cease Jubeis involvement in the plot at this point? Of course not. Well... we can hope.
Looks like I guessed wrong about the deathcount, but I was only off by one.
