One theory goes that, in the future, giant planet sized computer will be able to run such good simulations of the 21st Century Earth, that an artificial being in one of them, convinced that they are a human but actually computer code, would not be able to tell from inside that they are in a simulation rather than reality.
The theory then proceeds on to say that, since there is only one original reality but, if such simulations can be run at all, it is likely that they will be run many many times over the following thousands and millions and billions of years left in the lifespan of the Universe, the chances are that any particular person (such as yourself) who thinks they are living in reality, is actually one of the unlucky 99.9% who is living in a simulation. --DR Another theory goes that the world is made of custard. The theory then proceeds on to say that The Matrix is some kind of serious philosophical speculation instead of a crappy sci-fi B-movie with better than average special effects.
