According to the [Christian] Bible?, behaving in a way God doesn't want you to.

..is the Christian definition quite that simple? Also, what other religions have the concept, and how do they define it?

If I understand correctly, all Abrahamic religions have a concept of sin.  That would include at the least Judaism and the Muslim religion in addition to Christianity.  Most religious organizations have a concept of right and wrong, whether it be good vs evil or enlightenment vs banality; so one might understand sin to mean 'any act proscribed by a religious organization'. --hart
Except Christian sin also entails a concept of punishment and redemption.  Whereas banality versus enlightenment doesn't.  (And, to confuse things, the Buddhist hells act much as the Christian one - although presumably enlightenment avoids it.)  --Vitenka (So what happens to, I dunno, a poisoner who later in life becomes enlightened?)
