I'll expand more later, but basically - you'll find this theme reoccuring everywhere.

If it really is a superhero show, then they'll probably be teenagers and dressed in bright and easily defined colours.  (I'd say primary, but last I looked pink wasn't a primary colour)

Anyway, the five are:

There are, of course, variations.  But look at almost any saturday morning cartoon and you'll find this sequence.

Examples:
BattleForThePlanet fits it perfectly (and I don't want to remember their names, thank you)  - variant: The female one is only mildly token and is both smart and fast, the big one is fat rather than strong.

Battle of the planets (or Science ninja team Gatchamen) was the first of the Sentai shows (in otherwords, it invented the Superhero team of five concept as far as Japan goes, way back in the nineteen seventies.

ScoobyDoo has Freddy, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Scooby. - Variant: Velma is smart and big and female, daphne is female and useless.  There isn't really a leader OR Shaggy is more doped than evil - also half mascot.  Fred was so the leader.

CaptainPlanet? fits this too, to an extent. "Fire" was the resentful evil one, "Heart" the mascot. "Earth" was both the leader and big - to make up, both "Air" and "Water" were female.

SailorMoon - just about. No obvious "female" one, as they are of course all female, but Sailor Moon as the Leader, Mars as the not-the-Leader, Jupiter (logically enough) as the big one, and Venus as the mascot, all seem pretty reasonable. Mercury would be "the smart one", I suppose....

Far far too many examples are visible [here]. Japan is truly capable of many horrors.

I'm sure that you can think of others.

EnidBlyton?'s TheFamousFive? had a similar setup years ago.
Similar, but not fitting into those categories. (Of the two females, one is the wannabe-leader and the other the mascot. Unless you want to claim Tim as the mascot And Julian is both the leader and the big one).
George isn't really a wannabe-leader, she's an independant.  Anne is surprisingly useful. :) -- Senji
I would have thought that George counted as the bid one, since despite being female she is brutally non-feminine.  Dick always strikes me as slightly resentful.  --FR

This is just one example of the RuleOfFive.

I'm trying to match this up against the (six) Sidereals in AFILAW.  [Kira] is evidently the female one.  Fire or Snow is probably the Leader, Swallow probably the Evil one... -- Senji
Fire would be the big one...
Syrtis appears to be at the back of the line again. Yay! I'm the mascot. -- [Syrtis]
The GM's opinion:

It doesn't really fit the (nine) Ravens at all. Which is strange, because we were all stereotypes. The closest we got would be:
Leader - Takashi
Bitter/kinda evil - Artan
Big - Alicia
Or Bunto? -- Senji
Mascot - Tulas
Female - Lynn
This leaves the mages, Bunto and Taphiran out, and adds an NPC because she was as important a party member as the other eight anyway.

Spoofed extensively by WebComics/StrangeCandy.  See [here], [here], or [here].
Have Webcomics/Omoshiroku? [for another example] - seems that these teams exist solely to be spoofed now.  --Vitenka
