My brother spent hours, if not months, painting up the little models for Warhammer 40K.  Then he'd usually beat me at the game.  But sometimes I won.  :) -- M-A

I'd just add that painting the little models is one of two things in Slough that might save your sanity.  The other is the cinema.  Painting little models is theraputic.  Slough is not.  --Vitenka

Requiem has never been to Slough, but sees Warhammer40k as both a saver and destroyer of sanity. Modelling and painting the models is therapeutic. Playing the game is sanity neutral, once you've decided on a rules set (since there are so many editions). Choosing a rules set is sanity-detrimental - the old rules are complicated and slow, the new ones oversimplified to the point of ridiculity. Attempting to follow the metagame is damaging to sanity - GamesWorkshop bring out so much new, partially unbalanced stuff that it changes faster than Magic's. Attempting to follow the 'canon' is a possible symptom of madness - they took the complete, gritty Dark Future world of Rogue Trader and stuffed it to bursting with additional elements, and their jargon is two parts badly-understood Latin to one part medical terminology to one part Greek letters. Oh - and the models cost a ridiculous amount.
