First, the faults.
It's a bit old. Some of the animation is a bit rough at the edges, though the bits that are meant to be beautiful - are.
It devolves into ScoobyDoo somehwhat, with MonsterOfTheWeek syndrome.

And now the good bits.
It has style. It has plot. It has twists on authentic legend.

It hooks you from the very first episode, which features an AnneRice FanBoy?.

I won't spoil it. But it is fantastic.
This is a camera which really knows exactly what belongs on screen, and what doesn't.

There are some OVAs and movies, which are mostly recaps of existing episodes and mostly bad. There is one which reveals some backplot that is worthwhile though.
