(The anime is often distributed under its Japanese name, "Natsuiro no Sunadokei", which literally means "summer-coloured hourglass". The game is sold as HourglassOfSummer.)
The basic plot for both the game and the anime: a 16-year-old schoolboy wakes up to discover he's jumped a month and a half into the future, and his girlfriend has been killed in a car accident. This is distressing since last he knew, he was about to ask her out, not really expecting her to say yes... The story follows him as he tries to figure out what's happening.
The anime is a sweet two-episode HighSchoolRomanceOAV, and although it's an adaptation of a DatingSim, the anime could probably count as Shoujo, or at least neutral. (Under the rest of the classifications as used on AmeCon pages, it's contemporary, heartwarming, chick flick, and probably semi-highbrow due to the time travel aspects.)
The game is an AnimePlay?VisualNovel release from Hirameki International: like the previous AnimePlay? games it's playable on any DVD player including PCs with CD-ROM drives. Unlike the previous AnimePlay? games it's meant to have a decent length, plot and replay value, according to initial reviews. AlexChurchill had been wondering about getting the game; now after seeing and liking the anime at AmeCon, he's planning to get the game soon, and will let people know how it turns out.
