[Barclays are putting contactless chips into all debit cards]. I'm sure this has been discussed already on the wiki, but I can't find it. I think this is a bad idea. --Admiral

These cards are now being handed out. Barclays has a web page at http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=homefreevi2&value=15950&target=_self&site=pfs giving some blurb. I thought this was rather classic:

Q: I'm a Barclays customer, but I don't want to make contactless payments.
A: That's fine. When you are sent a new debit card it will have the contactless technology, but it's up to you whether you use it.

Of course, if someone nicks your card, then they're bound to abide by your decision not to use the contactless payment, aren't they!
