Start in closed hold, with man facing wall. Man has L side-close-side-tap (1 beat each) and back again side-close-side-tap. Lady mirrors. Man repeats, but turning lady to her right under his left arm in the first bar, and back again in the second. Adopting promenade position (both facing down room), both have step-tap four times (one beat per step and per tap). Still facing down LoD, man has side-close-side-tap moving towards C, and lady has same moving towards wall. On the tap, you clap once. Then side-close-side-tap to start again. Sometimes the beat barn dance is danced with one partner throughout: other times, the man will move forward one lady in the last bar. Repeat until you run out of music.

Note: there is no change of weight on a tap.
