Isn't that kinda dangerous to the person doing the firing? Unless you specifically make the grenade such that it can be rocket propelled safely, in which case how is that different from a bazooka or missile launcher?

Unsure about that, but yeah - basically they are a one shot bazooka, used in the same 'tube over the shoulder' way.
