A word that gets taken up and overused by mass brainwashing devices, twisting its original meaning (if it even had one and isn't just made up)

The word is jumped on because it is 'hot' - people start classifying everything as (whatever) in order to try and catch attention. Eventually if becomes so silly that even marketeers stop going near the word.

Eventually, perhaps, it becomes a proper word with an accepted meaning.
