What keeps you up at night?  What fears lie in the darkness behind your eyes?

In children, it might be phantoms of the imagination, spectres that haunt their dreams, the proverbial ‘monster under the bed’.

Do things change when we get older?  Or do the monsters just get horribly, horribly real?

Every day on the news we see awful violence and crime, and we’re told about terrorism, individuals and groups who attempt to force us into things we don’t want to experience, whether it’s a different religion, culture or law.  These people are very real.

A few months ago one of them was re-voted into the position of ‘leader of the free world’, over another candidate far more qualified and better suited to the role.

George W Bush rants against religious fanatics, and then claims that God talks to him in person.  He promotes equality between people of different races, while many in the US are suspected and persecuted for the colour of their skin.  He tells us about the injustice in other countries, and then passes laws that benefit only the affluent, while the average person suffers.  And this is the most powerful man alive.

I think we have plenty to be scared of.
