Freeware clone of SidMeier's Civ II. Rather good. Has multiplayer capability, which is also rather good. Open source. Ports available for [Windows], [Linux], etc.

[Debian] (as root, assuming broadband connection):

 apt-get update
 apt-cache search freeciv
 apt-get install (whatever the search found)

[RedHat] 9 CDs have the RPMs - you can use the Gnome add/remove programs thingammy to install it.
