Rules booklet - It would be nice if a briefing on the rules (enough to get someone playing, not exhaustive) from a player who already knows them, took 15 minutes tops (aim for 5).
Setup (from a pre-prepared and bagged set) with a group who know the game should take under 5 minutes from opening the box, to the first player placing their first city.
Total playing time, for an experienced group, should take under 90 minutes for 3 players
Admirable aims, but I don't think that's really something we can flat-out state as a "should" at this stage. --AC
Alex - how long would you expect it to take, for 6 players? 3 hours?
Maybe a human figure with a peaked cap, to mark the player colour (for now just use standard wooden people markers that come in lots of games - could even use the same ones as we use to denote having won a contract on a city).
We could indicate how much the toll at that booth is, by standing the figure on a pile of the appropriate number of coins.
Roads - we don't actually need to specify which edges of a hex the road is connecting. Either a hex is passable or impassable. Roads could be marked by anything, even small black or white discs from GO.
Cities - the number discs from settlers the wrong way up, so they are A, B, C, etc, with a player colour marker standing on top of it. Or, alternatively, they could be symbols
