Part of a long running series - there were about 5 Dizzys, in all of which you could pick up random pieces of scenery to reveal hidden objects.
There was a really interesting interview with the designers of this, in Edge?, a few months back. Apparently, they wanted to be able to demonstrate recognisable emotion, to try and engage the player on a deeper level than other games of the time; this meant making the face big enough for expressions to be clear and obvious; however, the sprite size was limited by the hardware, so they decided to make the entire sprite the face. It stuck.

Dizzy
The one which started it all.
Treasure Island Dizzy
Treehouses, lakes, snorkels. Start off next to a treasure chest which you can stand on or pick up. Try to collect 20 (?) Gold Coins. Wonderfully nostalgic memories.
Very straightforward, as I recall - completed the same day I got it. Still quite fun though.
Spellbound Dizzy
Genuinely challenging, and items have more than one use. Also has a health bar - some enemies don't just kill you on contact but quickly drain your health, which you recover by eating fruit. Collect 5 Stars for each member of the Yolkfolk, plus an item of theirs (eg Granddizzy's ear trumpet, Dylan's "vibes") to save them. Then try to rescue yourself. There exists a cut-down version for some platforms, which has some of the same scenes but in different places, leading to obvious confusion.

Magic Land Dizzy
The best Dizzy, in my opinion. AC has played this one, but can't remember it - or more likely, is mixing bits of it up with bits of Fantasy World Dizzy. Can you remind us what Magic Land Dizzy was like? The most memorable bits are WeirdHenge?, the witch in the middle of the swamp, the ice palace, the irritable genie and the lightning rod, the troll bridge, and going to hell at the end of it all.
