The MindSportsOlympiad was an effort to get people to notice BoardGames as 'proper' competitions by getting more well known venues, high prize money and so forth.  This worked fine in the dot.com era, but when the bubble burst, sponsorship became hard to find, and it went a bit downhill.  Angoel doesn't go any more because (especially since he is no longer a student) the cost to enter events has become extortionate.

The Cambridge MindSportsOlympiad, on the other hand, is a cheap and chearful affair which sticks a load of random games competitions into the May Bank Holiday.  You can find its website at http://www.gen.cam.ac.uk/msocam/, and everyone should go and take part.  Yes, even you.
