Apple weren't happy with both MicroSoft? and RealNetworks? plaguing computer users with incompatible buggy and outright horrible video players - so they made their own. And their own proprietary formats. And their own codec system incompatible with everything on earth.

And then they had the affrontery to release it for the PC as well as the mac.

And for some reason, people STILL release things in it. Argh.

It crashes a lot. Usually whenever you try to install it - which always wants to do a webinstall.

Converters exist for older versions of .mov format to usable formats. But the newer formats seem better guarded.
