Oh dear. Oh this is too funny. It's not good. Put away any conception you may have that this is a substitute for a third season of satam. This is pure and outright a kids show. But oh god it's funny.
This could be seen as a prequel to sonic adventure. All the characters are here.
Basic plot. Botnik loses another fight, but the chaos emerald blows up and sonic and co find themselves in the real world.
(Interesting side point from the intro, there's both a good team of five {sonic, tails, amy, knuckles, new one that I don't recognise}, and a bad guy team of five {eggman, bat whose name I forget, knuckles, shadow and metal}. Handy, no? {Hang on, that's knuckles twice. Nice touch.})
Sonic attacks robotniks fortress. If dragons lair (the 2d version) met a sonic computer game, this would be it. I want to play it. He gets past the bullets, the missiles - even the giant mech - but takes a wrong turn and gets thrown out. Tails (ye gods, tails gets younger and with a more annoying voice every series) throws him a ring and he goes back in. Robotnik gloats a bit, gets blown up by his own creation and triggers his big weapon of the day. It goes wrong. Everything explodes. Knuckles stands there looking hard.
Sonic wakes up in darkness - in a modern day real world type city.
Sonic gets in trouble with the police, who dispatch their high speed racing division to stop him. The police have formula one cars. Don't worry about it. They even have the three red/green starting lights outside the station. By this point I am laughing loudly.
He outpaces them easily, having fun and taking the piss. They work in the disclaimer beautifully.
Sonic jumps on top of the moving car. The policeman says "Hey! You can't do that! Think what would happen if kids started copying you!" Sonic say (to policeman, to camera, waving finger) "Don't stand on a moving car kids"
It's a beautiful silly moment - and I hope that's the tone the whole show is going to have.
Anyhow, sonic runs out of road, goes flying into the city, and ends up in a young girls pool. She saves him from drowning, and we're set up for the rest of the series.
Incredibly kiddy, incredibly silly and I don't much like the character designs. But I like it.
The extro sequence has everyone crashed for the night (pizza boxes lie around and such). Sonic is watching TV. The TV is showing the episode. My brain hurts.
