Like an arrow.

FruitFlies, on the other hand, like a banana.
No, FruitFlies tend to walk because biologists are busy mutating them the wrong number of wings and having them sniff ether.  --Vitenka
Carbon dioxide, please. Ether is so last century ;) - SunKitten
Yeah well, our biology teacher had a big jug of mercury, too.  --Vitenka
So, in fact, FruitWalks??
Here would be a good place ot mention the arrow of time.  There is a whole bunch of scientific theory which works just as well forwards in time as it does backwards.  But in the macro universe, time seems to only go in the one direction.  The HowAndWhy? of this is still under discussion and is likely to be very confusing.  --Vitenka
Erm, no, not really. The "arrow of time" comes from Thermodynamics. Entropy increases in the forward direction of time. --SF
Yes yes - but thermodynamics is an emergent property.  Or to put it another way, that's the description of time, not an explanation.  So somewhere between having a single particle and having a whole mass of them, time emerges.  --Vitenka
Ah. So you're saying "in areas of the universe where it is already known that all accepted models of physics break down, we don't know how it works." Thankyou for this earthshattering revelation. --SF
Gah!  No!  What we are asking is: Where does it COME from?  As atoms come from protons and electrons (and a few other bits) - science likes to take things apart and analyse them.  We know that any system big enough to have thermodynamics has entropy and time.  But we also think that we know that systems small enough do not, they are reversible.  So how does time emerge?  Are we missing a few laws of physics?  Is time really just an emergent property?  That sort of thing.  --Vitenka
If you took a current model of a macroscopic system and reversed the sign of t but kept everything else the same, wouldn't the entropy still increase? I think that's right - something to do with random walks through phase spaces. ICBW. --Requiem

NazeNaniTime??
