Haitch Tee Tee Pee Colon BackSlash? BackSlash? Double-you Double-you Double-you Dot (whatever) Dot Sea Oh Emm.

Now, which is easier to say, hmmm?

(Vitenka's personal slang, but you can borrow it if you like)

Wonders why the backslashes?
Forward slash?  Whatever.

AlexChurchill's favourite abbreviation along these lines is "happytap-tripledub", representing http://www .  As in "happytap-tripledub-dot-yahoo-dot-com".

That's a nice one.  Can we have both as WikiPrefix?? TrubleVay?:Google and HappyTapTripleDub?:altavista.co.uk for example?

PeterTaylor would just refer to "yahoo.com" (or, actually, in the case of something as well known as Yahoo!, just "Yahoo!"). In the rare case you get something like http://plaindomainname.com, he'd say "h-t-t-p-colon-double-slash-plaindomainname-(dot-)?com". (Yes, that's regex syntax, before anyone asks).
Mmm, but the ditching of .com is a nice thing too - and you do have to mark it as a URL somehow.  My browser will cope with [yahoo Yahoo!] just fine (though I'm not so crue as to subject it to that horror) - but that's way outside spec and an added extra that most browsers don't have.  Plus, do you want to risk EVERY word becoming an offsite link?  I would expect SOME InterWiki syntax would be needed.  --Vitenka
