StuartFraser lives within an hour of Grimsby and less than two hours from the other fishing ports of the Yorkshire coast, and as a result knows of a great many places where such food can be obtained. Generally the better ones are towards the coast, though; as far inland as I am the quality tails off slightly.
In Brighton, battered HaloumiAndChips can be obtained from vegetarian restaurant Tèrre a Tèrre under the name "the better batter".
Can also be obtained in California, typically from places claiming to be 'British Fish and Chip' shops. Invariably (in my limited experience), the fish is, in shape, roughly a parallelogram rather than fish-shaped and the chips are 'fries'.
