Except it's in space, and the Count is a vampire (sort of) and it is very, very colourful. Go watch it.
The fact that everthing in it is extremely stylish is impossible to ignore but, for once, probably due to the basis of the book, it has quite a lot of substance too. And, as of the end of episode 2, it even appears to be being remarkably faithful to that book (for reference, Nataku has read the book, I have not, yet)
One warning, the opening song is dire. The visuals are very pretty but I doubt I'll ever see them again unless I use the mute button. The ending song and sequence is, on the other hand, everything the opening should have been.
As an interesting touch, the clothes of most of the main characters have elaborate patterns which stay stationary as the character moves. It's a very odd effect which works well in some places, but less so in other.
Random note of interest: The opera song being sung in the first episode is Lucia Di Lammamore. Anyone seen TheFifthElement?? It's the same song that the blue alien sings... --K
