Ok - this is an episode of sonic adventure (action stage) crossed with pokemon. Ouch.
Recap the watery rescue. Chris' mother is a movie star. Explaining the huge house and pool. The strange gradfather who invents robots isn't explained. The house is more than slightly reminiscent of the one from the show with the boy with the wristwatch that summons a giant robot from the pool thunderbirds style. Only this one's got sonic instead.
And, uh, Chris is male. S'not my fault for being unable to tell.
Sonic is officially categorised as a SarcasticTalkingCat by the identity character. And then we try and explain the whole 'other world' thing. Complicated by neither character knowing what is going on. The best solution to the whole "Ok, what is snic doing in the real world?" dilemma the newer games presented - "We don't know and neither do you. Deal with it."
Father is 'not introduced' - which means he's the racing driver from before.
We next get the whole "What do hedgehogs eat" thing. And a nice tie in with the joke earlier, by not explaining to him what CatFood? is... "Wait, you can't go out! Bye." Humm.. what does sonic do for money? (And where would he keep it?) Oh well.
Sat in front of the TV, watching police reports and eating crisps - when, in bursts the nutty professer. Who starts poking sonic with a screwdriver to try and take him apart. Um.
The character I didn't recognise is named cream and cheese. Let us never mention this again.
Area 99 is an airstrip. I'm not sure of the significance, but it's blatantly meant to be like Area51.
Grandpa is the one advocating working together to break into the armies secret facility. To the young boy: "You're going too." Something of a reversal of the usual "No, it's too dangerous kid" event.
They approach the desert fortifications in a doctor who style souped up oldsmobile. Sonic gets a one eye and earpiece headset. Why not.
Lots of doom and gloom high tech security and minor chords. A young scientist makes his way to the lab, where the chao (better name it by the game name or I'll never write this) is in a glass jar. Shades of the roboticisation chambers I guess. Sonic approaches. "Head for the vents." yeesh. "Head for a place that looks suspicious" Heh. We're back to silly again.
Sonic games never did have a stealth stage. But if they did, it'd be like this - run from blindspot to blindspot and wait for the cameras to move again. I want another sonic game, my DreamCast is lonely.
The evil chamber commences its xerox operatrion. Well, that's what it looks like. It's about as threatening as my scanner. Chao is a wuss.
Of course, whilst sonic is breaking in - so is someone else. The electronics go down. Who in their right mind uses explosive paper aeroplanes?
The lights come back on. Busted. Gun cameras of squintness. Co-opted. Again, this should be a game stage. I would play this cartoon.
Tails has, of course, timed everything perfect. For "I'm only twee years old" he's kinda good at planning. Admittedly, his planning mostly consists of "Whatever I do, sonic will get there first, so I'd better start out now with the intention of saving him". "Hang on so that you don't fall off" he says, banking to ninety degrees...
Tails and the professor go off into insane inventor chats, whilst Chris berates Sonic for being irresponsible. Almost two whole episodes before someone said that.
Oh cool. botnik has his own private island base. He gets all the luck. And, um, how come he's still called eggman when his new character design doesn't look anything like humpty dumpty?
