A mystical sum of money which flashes briefly into existence between landing in the BemusedStudent's account (after a huge sheaf of paperwork has been done to produce it) only to disappear almost immediately in payment of the CollegeBill, dragging extra money with it as if by magic or strange quantum gravity. It is rumoured that students of rich colleges like TrinityCollege may actually have some left at this point, but this has never been substantiated.

: (PeterTaylor) Oh, it's true. After all, the maximum StudentLoan is about 1300 per term nowadays, and TrinityCollege subsidises the rent so it's only about 500 per term, plus 100 KFC. A student can probably live on 200 per term for food, which leaves 500.
