Phoenix: a semi-mythical bird said to reproduce once every thousand years by spontaneously combusting to leave one egg behind. Its feathers are commonly thought to have magical properties, but due to the rarity of the bird, very few if any experiments are permitted. Most phoenixes are preserved on farms. There is [rumoured] to be a phoenix egg in one of the many museums of the /UniversityOfCambridge

What phoenixes have to do with anything, beyond being the named creature in the title of the strip, is as yet unclear (MuHaHa).

What we do know is that in true Cambridge fashion, there are [protesters] campaigning for "phoenixes" (the one in the museums? any specific one? some in general? the idea of them??) to be freed, and that newspeople [are interviewing University professors] about them.

And there was a glowing creature in the night sky seen by /Megaera at [the end of Chapter One]... might it conceivably be...?  :)

See /Daedalus.

See also h28: Dairen McCulloch had a phoenix named Icarus for a familiar, one thousand years ago.
