RecentChanges occasionally crawls. I apologise for the server hardware..
What you can do about it:
If, like me, you are checking back here several times a day, use [Preferences] to change your RecentChanges to only display 1 day. This will speed things up for everyone else.
That Preferences link doesn't work, it tried to get me to edit the settings for user id 1053 (I'm 1052) -- Senji.
Hmm, seems to want to create a new user to change prefs. WorkingAsIntended?
Tick the "This is a minor edit" box when you are editing a page if you have not added any content (e.g. if you were fixing a spelling mistake).
What I intend to do about it:
I will try turning on HTML caching when I get home tonight. This may create occasional race conditions (if someone saves a page they have been editing just as you are downloading it to read, your download will abort partway through and you will have to hit "reload" in your browser to get the entire page, which is why it is currently off.
In the long term, I will try and dig up more memory for our webserver.
What type of memory do you need? I have a spare 512MB 133MHz dimm lying around somewhere... -qqzm
*sigh* currently, it's running on an HP Omnibook 900b. It has 64Mb soldered in, and has an expansion slot that can take a single SODIMM, up to 256Mb in size. I'd be astonished if anyone had one around. Thanks for the offer, though :) - MoonShadow
