Currently only possible forward at a constant rate.
It could be argued that in this context the word 'currently' is suspect.
You also want to be careful about frames of reference.

Although, it doesn't always feel like that.

But... would other speeds/directions of time travel be a GoodThing, if we could?
Surely there will be GovernmentCoverUps? if indeed time travel is possible. Just think about the social, political and economical implications? Saying that, people who time travel tend to kill their grandfathers, hence erasing themselves from existance because the universe hates paradoxes. -ColinLeung

What if time is complex, with different outcomes of schroedinger wave functions occuring in different arguments of the complex time vector? --Bobacus, proving his capability to spout pseudo-scientific babble. All that StarTrek watching is paying off ;-)
Isn't that basic 'many universe' theory?  --Vitenka
Wasn't there some ScienceFiction on the subject somewhere? ;) - MoonShadow

Responsible for some of the best StarTrek episodes in existence, and also some of the worst.--King DJ

Requiem debates the first of those two assertions.

Have you ever SEEN "Futures End", the 2 part Voyager episode where they all go back to 1996? Classic! What about "Trials and Tribble-ations" in Deep Space Nine?—King DJ
"Future's End" is awful. No, really awful. Worse than that. The best of the films, First Contact, is based on time travel. There's a couple of OK TNG time travel episodes (Time's Arrow, parts I and II, being the main one), but that Voyager episode is terrible. --SF
Admiral's opinion: Yes, Future's End isn't very good - I wouldn't call it awful. First Contact is cool, however, I would have to argue that The Voyage Home rivals it (and is based on time travel too). Time's Arrow is better than Future's End, but only just. Trials and Tribble-ations is just fun.
I really like The Voyage Home :) - I thought it was better than First Contact - SunKitten
Gah! I can't stand The Voyage Home - I rate it barely above The Motion Picture and The Final Frontier. The Voyage Home is supposed to be funny, and isn't. (Insurrection is supposed to be funny and is, but has an even more hackneyed plot and manages to be both really bad and really good in bits.) Trials and Tribble-ations is indeed amusing, now I've remembered which one it is. --SF
I like "The Voyage Home" much more than the "Final Frontier" or "The Search for Spock". It's up there with "The Undiscovered Country" certainly. What is not to like about "Future's End" (except the apparent stupidity of StarFleet? Command in the 29th centaury)? The Doctor single handedly taking on a fistful of survivalists,  Tuvok and Paris’s bickering, the only good car chase seen StarTrek has even done (the one in Nemesis is beyond belief), Henry Starling the resourceful and clever villain….. –King DJ
